Parks maintenance crews have completed slope stabilization on the lower Coal Creek trail, reopening the section between markers 14 and 15 ahead of the fall hiking season.
Crews regraded roughly 60 feet of trail bed, replaced two drainage culverts and reset the retaining structure below the old portal bench. The work closes out this year’s scheduled maintenance in the natural area.
This is the fourth stabilization of the same section since 1998. As on previous occasions, crews found the survey stakes set during the prior work displaced downslope, and reset them.
